Artificial light is essential for a modern industrial society to work. Light allows independence from the time of day and is an indispensable means of displaying information visually. One example includes projector lamps in video projectors, rear projection television sets and in cinemas. But there is even more to light than this. Nowadays light is being used as a tool in many industries. Today auto body panels are being laser welded more precisely and quickly using light. Placing special lamps in so-called wafer- and LED-steppers allow manufacture of microchips and LCD displays. Ultraviolet lamps are used to cure coloured inks and lacquers. They are also reliably used to sterilise drinking water.
Heraeus fabricates and sells high-quality quartz glass products for use in lamps and lasers as well as special light emitters for industrial applications worldwide.
